The visa you must apply for to study in Australia is the Student Visa (Subclass 500), regardless of your study level or field. The visa application must be lodged online via: online.immi.gov.au/elp/app. Visa processing time is 2 hours - 4 weeks - 8 weeks depending on your documents, and the visa can be granted for a maximum of 6 years.

After graduation, international students may stay in Australia to work as follows:

  • Master’s by research and PhD graduates: 3 - 5 years
  • Students may also apply for permanent residency under skilled migration pathways if eligible.

Visa Assessment Levels for Vietnamese Citizens: Depending on the university you apply to, your visa will fall under one of the following assessment levels:

  • Assessment Level 1
    • No mandatory evidence of financial capacity or English required for the visa office.
    • However, schools may still request financial and English declarations.
    • The visa office may also request additional documents if needed.

    • Must provide income statements and evidence of family assets to both the school and visa office.

    • Must provide evidence of savings sufficient for 1 year of tuition and living costs, and the savings account must be at least 3 months in advance.
    • Must provide income statements and evidence of family assets to both the school and visa office.

To determine whether you need to provide financial or English evidence, use the official tool: Select your nationality → Your institution → Display evidence https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/web-evidentiary-tool
