General information about the UK

General information about the UK

The United Kingdom is located in the northwest of the European continent and is composed of four constituent parts: Northern Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland. Key facts about the UK:

Capital : London
Country code : +44
Official language : English
Area : 243,600 km²
Population : 68.871.166 (2023 estimate)
Government system : Constitutional monarchy with a bicameral Parliament
GDP : £2.27 trillion (2022)
Famous tourist attractions : Stonehenge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Alton Towers.

Following its withdrawal from the European Union on 1 February 2020, the United Kingdom became a fully independent state pursuing its own economic, political, educational, military and diplomatic objectives without being bound by the EU’s common regulations as before. National development policies have become more flexible and seemingly more effective, with decisions being made more promptly and efficiently.

In the field of education alone, immediately after Brexit, the UK reinstated its policy allowing international students to remain for 02 years of post-study work and to apply for permanent residence once eligible. At the same time, it relaxed certain education and immigration policies, making conditions more favorable for international students.
